School improvement programme in Platanares

Plan would like to thank the founders of Donate a Dollar, Pam Bearman and her colleague, Justina Pena-Pan, for their ongoing dedication and support for Plan's work. As a result of their second round of fundraising, Plan Honduras was able to improve two schools in the Platanares area in 2006.

Over $16,000 was raised for Oscar Humberto Villeda School, which meant Plan Honduras was able to extend the project to include Jose Trinidad Reyes School in the improvement programme.

Some of the activities carried out were:

• Repairs for two school classrooms: improving the roof, installing new floor tiles and painting exterior and interior walls, and the construction of an area for school events
• School furniture for two school rooms: including chairs for teachers and pupils, wall boards and book shelves
• Educational materials for two school rooms
• Repairs of the kitchen/warehouse: refinishing the walls, building cooking surfaces and kitchen cabinets.
