Universal Birth Registration

Plan's universal birth registration campaign

Every year, around 40 million children are born but not registered. Without a birth certificate, they don’t officially exist.

Why a birth certificate is important

Without a birth certificate, children could be denied their basic rights to school, healthcare and housing. They may not be able to vote, open a bank account or marry. And if they don’t officially exist, our experience shows that they are more vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.
