Plan was among 100 organisations to exhibit at the forthcoming December 1 World AIDS Day celebrations in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event, which took place at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, attracts a wide cross-section of NGO executives, diplomats, leaders, community representatives, scholars, researchers, business people, politicians, people living with AIDS and thousands of ordinary people.
Organised by the National AIDS Control Council, the country's coordinator of HIV/AIDS activities, exhibitors are selected on the basis of the innovative nature of their HIV/AIDS programs. Plan's community-centred approach has won special mention in previous events and is a key winning point.
Nairobi and Machakos Development Agencies represented Plan Kenya at the event, which was opened by the Vice President and the Minister for Home Affairs, Hon. Moody Awori.
Rather than have Plan tell its own story, the development agencies invited two community-based organisations to attend and explain how they work with Plan Kenya. Jillo Kasse and David Ngula, from Nairobi and Machakos DAs respectively, were at the stand with the CBO representatives.
The CBOs who exhibited at last year's event found it to be a great success, and described it as, 'an excellent opportunity to increase their visibility'. Over 2,000 people visited their stand.
