For the children in Cameroon, malaria is a huge problem. Plan Cameroon has set up 50 children's forums. The main objectives of the project are:

  1. to combat the high rate of infant and child mortality mostly due to malaria by advocating for an increase in the use of insecticide treated bed-nets
  2. another objective of the project is to increase awareness and promote prevention of HIV/AIDS in the community, mostly among young people

The members of the children’s forums organised clean-up campaigns in their community, around schools and health centres in order to combat the spread of the mosquito responsible for malaria.

The children also went door-to-door meeting community members and talked to families about the importance of using treated mosquito bed-nets and stressing the importance of using them for children.

"Parents are now encouraged to buy more nets instead of using the only nets available while the children go without, " says one member of the children’s forum.
