Mr Savater, who is a professor at Complutense University of Madrid and is well known for his great number of books not only in Spain but internationally, was in the country to take part in an international literary festival.
Young journalists from the magazine Caja Mágica, a publication that allows children to participate and voice their opinions and concerns about life in their community, had the unique experience of interviewing him and showing him their neighbourhood.
The highlight of the visit for Mr Savater was his trip to El Redentor school, where he joined in lively discussions about child rights, which he strongly believes should be given top priority.

When asked why he fought for human rights, Mr Savater replied; “Because I am human like the rest of you. I believe everyone has to fight for their own rights; if we believe in them, we have to fight for them.”
Mr Savater was then interviewed about different issues by young reporters Sandy, Ana and Kelly for the school radio station and magazine, and in turn asked questions about the community work these young people conduct from their school.
When asked to give a final message for all the children in the community, Mr Savater said that they should seize all the opportunities they are given, now that they have adults that want to support them.
He added that; “They should all take advantage of their childhood years, which are fundamental to later live the life they want with freedom, knowledge and fun.”
