Thousands of children in north Tanzania are set to benefit from services from a partnership between Plan and the international organisation Pact.
The signed agreement means Plan will provide basic education, nutrition, health, shelter and protection services to vulnerable children in Geita, as part of a Global-Fund-financed project spearheaded by Pact.
The five-year project - which forms a key part of the Global Fund's HIV and AIDS work in Tanzania - aims to reduce the effects of HIV/AIDS and poverty on 300,000 orphans and vulnerable children across the country, who are often at greater risk than other children of being exploited and abused.
The decision to select Plan as a project partner was based on Plan’s reputation and grass-roots experience. Plan will be working closely with Pact, other international organisations, the Tanzanian government and private sector companies over the project's lifetime.
Plan Tanzania Country Director Heather Borquez said: “Pact was looking for an organisation that could reach children directly, and get the resources straight to them. They had heard about our work in Geita and approached us - that is certainly a credit to our work.”
