Kenyan Government says “Well done” to Plan
Plan has won acknowledgment from the government in Kenya for its role in the protection and improvement of water resources in the country.
During an address at Kenya’s World Water Day festivities, the Minister for Water Development Hon Mutua Katuku complimented Plan, describing its programmes as ‘interventions that work effectively at the grassroots level.’
He observed that Plan has supported communities in the provision of piped water, sinking boreholes and rehabilitating natural wells, adding: ‘These projects are making real changes in the lives of the poor people in our country.’
In apparent reference to the impact seen in projects supported by Plan, the Minister said organisations can bring substantive improvements in the living standard of the people if they ‘work with and for the people they target.’
The Minister noted that Plan involvement was instrumental to the success of the Sector Wide Approach adopted by the government, the aim of which was to promote integrated and comprehensive participation in the national goal of bringing access to clean water to all people.
This year’s theme was coping with water scarcity and the day was celebrated all over the country. Plan is also holding a Water Week exhibition in Garissa.
