Tropical Storm Jeanne - Update October

Since our last update, Plan has been actively taking part in meetings at the United Nations Development Programme to co-ordinate and help with all the relief efforts. Plan has been appointed as a member of the Water and Sanitation group after assessment of the pressing needs in the city of Gonaïves.

Plan is working with Oxfam to distribute 96,633 litres of treated water. The first shipment left for Gonaïves on Saturday 25 September. 56,780 litres of treated water were distributed in Gonaives the same day.

The access to Gonaïves remains a major problem with standing waters forming a three to four-kilometre deep lake requiring some dangerous driving for the 4x4 and heavy-duty vehicles at the approach of the city.

We expect the second shipment of 2,000 bottles (37,853 litres) of treated water to reach Gonaïves this week. (Monday 4th October).
