Plan began working in China in 1997, and now has 5 programme areas. Chunhua is a rural area with a population of 30,000 spreading across 65 villages within 3 townships. With 3,421 sponsored children, last year Plan had a budget of around £800,000 and ran 118 projects.

China is a different environment for an international Non Governmental Organisation to work in and Plan is only granted permission to do so by working in partnership with the Women’s Federation of China, the women’s core of the Communist Party who concentrate their work on women and children.

Annabel Davis reports.
