They are performing at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Southbank Centre’s week-long Chorus! Festival, which will also feature such luminaries as the Bach Choir, The City of London Choir and The Sixteen.
This concert presents the world premiere of 'Songs of the Coromandel Coast', a highly original and accessible choral work by India-based composer Chris Williams. This new work, for tenor, children's choir, chorus and orchestra, celebrates recovery after the catastrophic Asian tsunami of 2004.
'Songs of the Coromandel Coast' is a sequel to Williams' earlier moving Tsunami Requiem. This piece, composed immediately after the disaster, is also performed, along with two popular works from the classical repertoire, featuring two of the UK's leading soloists.
Performing with the choir are top UK soloists James Gilchrist, tenor, Richard Watkins, horn, The Philharmonia Orchestra, the English Brass Ensemble and the Choir of Eltham College.
Tickets are available and the price ranges from £9 to £32. You can purchase these from the Southbank Centre box office: 0871 663 2500, www.southbankcentre.co.uk.
There will be a pre-concert talk at 6pm by the composer Chris Williams included in the price of the ticket.
All funds raised will help our post-tsunami relief work in Sri Lanka.
