Issues and themes
Plan’s work is child centred and community based. We work with over 90,000 communities in 46 countries around the world to help develop responses to their needs and to the day-to-day challenges they face.
Plan works with children and their communities to help realise their rights. These rights include the rights of survival, development, protection and participation. Our work is influential at all levels - from a local community’s plan for access to quality education to national plans to eliminate school fees.
Social protection Plan is calling for donor governments to support developing country governments to deliver social protection for the poorest and most vulnerable |
HIV and AIDS In Plan’s experience, it is clear that children have the capacity to contribute to solutions for HIV/AIDS, we therefore build their capabilities into our long-term work with communities affected by HIV/AIDS |
Children's participation Plan’s work with communities is based on our model of Child Centred Community Development where we value children’s ability and right to participate in and inform decisions about issues that affect them |
Street children Plan works together with children, their families and their communities to ensure that no child is forced by circumstances to look to the streets for a livelihood or for accommodation |
Education Plan uses a life-cycle approach to education. This ensures that the sufficient needs of all age-groups of children are appropriately met and helps integrate health and education activities more effectively |
Health Plan's health-related programmes contribute towards securing the rights of children and young people to survival, development, protection and participation |

Some of our activities
Bridging the digital divide
Plan seeks to engage with governments and technology providers to influence the policies, product development and service provision that will affect the changing digital landscape in Africa over the years to come
Universal Birth Registration Birth registration is vital for every child. Plan is championing a campaign to ensure that all children, wherever they are born, are registered. Our campaign aims not only to speak out on behalf of every child but also to give children their basic right of citizenship
