Monsoon flooding displaces thousands in Pakistan

Many thousands of families have been affected as heavy rains caused the Sutlej River to flood, destroying houses and crops. Plan has launched an appeal to help affected communities in the Vehari and Rajanpur districts of Pakistan.

Heavy rains have affected areas in the province of Punjab. Villages alongside the Sutlej River have been completely destroyed and families have been forced from their homes.

As the number of displaced continues to grow, overcrowding in relief camps and the spread of communicable diseases are becoming a concern.

The flooding occurred in Plan’s Vehari programme area and sponsored children and their families are believed to be affected.

We will continue to update this site as more information becomes available and will notify affected sponsors direct if we receive news of individual sponsored children.

Plan's response in Pakistan

Plan's emergency response will focus on the district of Vehari, where Plan is already active, and the nearby Rajanpur district. The objective is to assist at least 1,500 of the most vulnerable families in these districts, with the priority being the health and wellbeing of women and children.

Immediate help will be given to the target families through the supply of food, shelter and hygiene packs. The project will also provide health and hygiene education in the two districts.

Help us assist those affected
