Child protection

Plan cares deeply about protecting the safety, privacy and dignity of the children we work with.

Help us protect children

If you see a photo on any Plan website that depicts children without dignity, respect or regard for privacy, please contact our Child Protection Officer.

Identifying children

We’re careful that a child can’t be identified or contacted either via our website or as a result of someone using our website. If you’re concerned that a child could be identified, please contact our Child Protection Officer.

We never use children's full names on our website. If we change a child's name in a story for their protection, then we will say so – the names are not all real but the stories are.

Photos on our website feature children from the communities we work with, but they’re not necessarily victims of violence or abuse.

Laws on how we obtain, use and store photos vary significantly in the different countries we work in, and we’re careful to adhere to these laws. In some countries, culture, tradition and religion also play a role, and we always respect this.

Informed consent

All stories and photos are collected with the informed consent of the children and families we work with. We take great care to explain how their stories and photos will be used and make sure each child and their family is happy with this.

If a new food security and nutrition initiative is to be announced, then this is the real story, at least for millions of people across the Sahel region currently at risk of chronic malnutrition.
