The awards – organised by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) – promote transparency in the third sector by rewarding the charities that publish the most friendly and accessible online financial reports.
Last year Plan UK won the first prize in the ‘Top 100 UK fundraising charities’ category. “Winning an award for the second time is a real achievement and recognition for Plan UK – it’s great news for the children and their families benefiting from our work, and testimony to our efforts to become a transparent and accountable organisation,” said John Pinchard, Plan UK Finance Director.
“Today’s winners are all great examples of what online accountability and transparency can mean in practice”, said Andrew Hind introducing the awards.
The CAF prize rewards best practice in financial accounting, raises the standard of web-based annual reports and accounts, and encourages charities to provide effective financial information online.
“In the 21st century donors want to know their money will be spent well. Openness and transparency are essential to maintain and build public trust. The winners of these awards have confidently encouraged public scrutiny by presenting their accounts in a friendly and accessible way,” said John Low, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation.
Nominees were judged by an expert panel chaired by Graham Ward CBE, a senior partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers and former President of the International Federation of Accountants.
