Award winning jazz star makes gig gift

10/02/2012

YolanDa BrownSaxophonist YolanDa Brown will perform at two special live Valentine’s Day performances, with a percentage of takings going to help Plan UK.

Best known for her soulful blend of hip hop, gospel and contemporary R&B, YolanDa is an ambassador for Plan UK’s Because I am a Girl campaign.

“Music, jazz in particular, has made such a massive difference to my life. So it means a great deal to be able to use it to make a difference to young people in whatever way I can”, says YolanDa.

“It is an honour to champion a charity that works closely with children and young people to fight poverty and its causes in poorer parts of the world.

“I was shocked when Plan told me about the large numbers of girls - tens of millions - who are missing out on primary and secondary education in the developing world.

“The charity has set-up a fund that provides educational opportunities to girls in marginalised communities. So I decided to get involved and back their efforts.”

YolanDa Brown is set to perform live at the HMV Apollo in London with accompaniment from the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra on February 14 and 17 2012.

Special guests include Ian Shaw, Omar, Mica Paris, Jacqui Dankworth and Mike Aremu. A £1 donation from every ticket sold for the two shows will be donated to Plan UK.
