1) Plan was founded by British journalist John Langdon-Davies in 1937 to rescue orphans and other vulnerable children from the Spanish Civil War.

2) Today we work in 50 of the poorest countries on the planet across Africa, Asia and South America.

3) We have over 114,000 sponsors in the UK, generating £25 million a year, and 1.5 million sponsored children worldwide.

4) Our projects, including schools and health centres, are geared to working with children and their communities to help them build a better future.

5) Sponsorship starts at £15-a-month and funds projects to improve schooling, health, nutrition and livelihoods across communities.

In the last financial year, Plan:

  • Raised more than £450 million in income
  • Spent £385.5 million on programme work
  • Implemented 7,318 projects
  • Employed 8,131 people
  • Worked with 66,886 communities covering a population of 62.4 million
  • Trained 456,641 people in health, education, agriculture, business and child protection
  • Supported 767 microfinance organisations and 13,636 local savings and loan groups
  • Helped build 1,935 health or early childhood care and development centres; 1,251 schools; 7,531 water points and improved sanitation for 90,882 households
