Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
>>Some 115 million children do not attend primary school
A child's right to survive and develop does not solely rely on healthcare. Whilst this is often the first necessary step, education is the key to their development in the future.
Yet some 115 million children do not attend primary school and one in six of the world's adults are illiterate. Parents are often unable to send their children, especially girls, to school.
Plan helps communities implement projects where parents are encouraged to educate their daughters, by locating schools close to their homes, building school latrines for girls as well as boys, minimising the costs of uniforms or fees for the families, scheduling hours to accommodate household chores, and providing a school feeding programme. These projects show parents the importance of girls' education and create a new generation of impowered women capable of transfering their knowledge to their families.
