55 Degrees South - the route

The 55 Degrees South team have successfully completed their 16,000-mile cycling effort, finishing at the world¿s most southern tip. The incredible feat by friends Anthony, James and Martin helped raise funds for Plan's education project with rural communities in El Salvador.

The 55 Degrees South team complete their journey

Unsupported and carrying their own equipment and food, the four started their exciting cycling journey in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and finished in Ushuaia, Argentina. The journey took them through two continents and adverse terrain and climates.

The four met in 1994 at Bangor University where their friendship evolved to last well after university, despite differences in personal circumstances, careers, and geographical locations.

The group supported the improvement of the quality of schooling for 7-15 year olds in 5 rural communities in El Salvador - enabling them to realise their potential and escape a life of poverty.
