On Monday 7th December Because I am a Girl took to the stage at the Y theatre in Leicester.
Because I am a Girl: Listen was created, produced and directed by one of our Youth Advisory Panel members, Katie Washington. Through dance, song and drama the all-female cast sensitively and powerfully highlighted the stories and situations that girls face all over the world including early marriage, lack of education, HIV/AIDs and violence.
The group of young female performers expressed their support for girls around the world through dance, song and drama. Their performance reflected on the value of education as key to girls around the world reaching their potential and having the tools to protect themselves from violence and discrimination.
