'Because I am a Girl' book launched in aid of Plan's work
Plan, in association with publisher Random House, has launched a book of stories by 7 leading authors based on the Because I am a Girl campaign to improve girls lives around the world.
In the book, the authors, including acclaimed novelists Irvine Welsh, Joanne Harris and Deborah Moggach, share their impressions of the lives, struggles and hopes of girls and young women in Brazil, Togo, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, Uganda, Ghana and the Dominican Republic.
The result, says the publisher, is an extraordinary collection of writings about prejudice, abuse, and neglect, but also about courage, resilience and changing attitudes.
Other contributors include best-selling writer Kathy Lette, author and prize-winning filmmaker Xiaolu Guo, journalist and author Tim Butcher and novelist Marie Phillips.
