How we work

Plan is a global children’s charity. We work with the world’s poorest children so they can move themselves from a life of poverty to a future with opportunity.

  • Our approach
    Our community-led child-centred approach means that our work is tailored to local needs. To find the best answers to the problems children face, we listen to the experts – the children and young people themselves.
  • How we raise money
    The majority of our income is from child sponsorship. We also receive donations and grants.
  • How we spend funds
    At least 80p in every pound donated is spent on supporting and delivering our development work.
  • Being trustworthy
    We’re accountable first and foremost to the children and communities we work with, and to the sponsors and donors who make that work possible. It’s very important to us that everything we do is open and honest.
  • Our governance
    Our programmes are designed in collaboration with children and communities, and we measure both results and their satisfaction. We regularly monitor and evaluate our projects to make sure they are meeting children’s needs.
