Partnering with Kaplan International
In partnership with education company, Kaplan International, Plan International is supporting projects focused on giving young women and girls equal opportunity to participate in education.
Since 2014, Kaplan International employees have run marathons, held raffles and organised events to raise over £100,000, supporting two projects to reduce the barriers to girls' education in Senegal and Sierra Leone.
Like Kaplan International, we believe that every child has the right to an education, in environments that encourage their personal, social and emotional development, so that they can reach their potential.

Another chance
I'm happy with the 1,000 girls project. I was going to drop out of school, but thanks to the project, my results are better. My level of study in reading and math is much improved.

Supporting young women to become teachers
In Sierra Leone, only 15% of girls finish secondary school. We know that a significant reason for this is the lack of female teachers in schools. By training young women using an innovative distance learning model, Kaplan International are supporting 480 young women in rural Sierra Leone to access teaching qualifications and inspire thousands of girls to stay in school.
Voices from the project
Margaret is 22 years old and lives in south-eastern Sierra Leone, where she works as a Learning Assistant. Margaret sadly lost her husband, son and the rest of her immediate family during the Ebola outbreak.
Through the project, Margaret is receiving the help and resources she needs to pass the entrance exams to train as a qualified teacher.
As Margaret says: “We have learned to talk to many different people… the project has given us a voice and hope for our future.”

"Kaplan, its employees and students are committed to making a difference to children and their communities around the world.
"We have over 75 years' experience in international development, and combined with the support of partners like Kaplan, we can make an even bigger difference."
