Sarah Trek
“Such an experience changes you in positive ways”
In her own words, Sarah shares how she took on the challenge of a lifetime to support children access education worldwide
"As an educator, I believe passionately in the power of education to transform lives. I have been so fortunate in my own life to have had access to an excellent education, to endless books and other resources to enable me to learn, grow and develop the confidence to be myself. How I would wish that for all children across the globe.
With this trek, I want to support an organisation which seeks to ensure every child has access to education in safe and supportive environments.
Raising money is a challenge in itself. It means having to overcome my inhibitions about promoting the trek, telling others about what I am doing and why I am doing it.
I had to use social media and the JustGiving site to the full and I shared information across all my personal and professional contact networks. I found I could not afford to be too shy or modest about my plans, if I wanted to get people to support this charity and donate to this fantastic organisation.
Such an experience changes you in positive ways and you learn an incredible amount about yourself, the world around you, and other people.
It is this sort of growth and learning that is at the heart of the work that Plan International UK does, which is so vitally important. I only hope I can encourage others to push themselves, in order to benefit the education of others across the globe as well as themselves."
